The Páva Synagogue and the adjoining new wing designed by the Ybl-prize winner István Mányi houses the Holocaust Memorial Center since 2004. The institution was awarded Nivó Prize of Architecture for restoration and rehabilitation of a historic monument in 2005. The building complex is a mix of classical and modern architecture. The building’s asymmetrical outline, the dislocated walls, and the descending stairs in the exhibition halls, all symbolize the distorted and twisted time of the Holocaust. From the inner courtyard, a flight of descending stairs underneath a leaning glass structure leads to the exhibition halls. The lecture hall, the rooms for group activities, the archive, and the library are on the ground floor, while the first floor houses the offices. The building is fully accessible to disabled visitors.
