The long-ago guards established their house groups from houses and agricultural buildings at the top of the hill, on a forest cutting, and now these form the “szerek”. Szalafő is a protected settlement from village image point of view as well; it preserves probably the most folk values in the Őrség. To preserve and present this settlement formation, which keeps traditions of many centuries, the Őrség Folk Monument Group was established in Pityerszer, where three original home building groups are presented, and exemplifying perfectly the traditional living and cultural heritage of their inhabitants.
