7623 Pécs, József Attila u. 5.

The Museum and Library of Mining History was established by the three most significant former Pécs-based mining companies, the Mecsek Coal Mining Company, the Mecsek Ore Mining Company and the Mining Shaft Sinker Company. You will find the Museum entrance on Rét street. The Museum introduces artefacts of the mining industry of the Mecsek region, mostly photos, flags, various documents and smaller equipments protected due to their value or age. The present collection was first exhibited in 1974 at 9 Mária street, at the former headquarters of the Danube Steamshipping Company. The exhibition was awarded with a professional technology museum title in 1982. The museum's field of interest is the geology of the Mecsek mountains and the history of mining, its areas of collecting are the geographic regions that used to be under cultivation in Southeast-Transdanubia.
The Museum of Mining History opened its gates at its present location on the 3rd of September 2004. Its reference library (a part of it is the Babits-legacy) is open for all enquiries.
