The exhibition originally opened in the Zsolnay Museum in 1984, and relocated in autumn 2011 to a recently renovated building at 4 Káptalan Street. It presents the works of sculptor Amerigo Tot that have been donated to the Pécs. Imre Tóth was born in Fehérvárcsurgó on 27 September 1909. He died in Rome on 13 December 1984, and was buried in Hungary according to his will. He had moved to Italy in 1937, and his life was just as colourful as his work. His sculptures occasionally reach back to Renaissance classics for inspiration, or link to modern constructivist traditions or surrealism, while at other times he approaches pop-art, the style of choice of the 1960s.
The exhibition displays such famous works of his as the Baptism relief, inspired by Italian Renaissance art, and Pebble Women, mother goddess symbols of fertility. A replica of the monumental Historical Ellipsis, which stands in the Chapel of Our Lady the Great Queen of the Hungarians at St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, is also on display here.
