The Ászár-Neszmély territory lies on the south-western slopes of the Gerecse mountain range, on the one hand, and on the slopes overlooking the Danube on the other. The best territories include the southern side of the Kesztölc limestone hill and the area around Neszmély and Dunaszentmiklós, not far from the Danube. The proximity of the Danube provides special climatic conditions to the territory. Rivers are an essential ingredient in many great wine regions (Bordeaux, for example is “nourished by” the Garonne and the Gironde). Leading varieties include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Királyleányka and Olaszrizling. One of the most popular original Hungarian National variety (Hungaricum), Cserszegi F?szeres, owes the pride of having been selected ’White Wine of the Year’ in Britain in 1998 to one of the esteemed growers of this territory.
